Certification Update from the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology (AOBOO) has been investigating on line platforms that will provide our exam candidates their certification exams securely. The Written examination for both certification and recertification has moved to a 'hybrid' on line platform which provides candidates an option to take their exam at home, or at a Pearson VUE testing center. The written exams will be offered from December 1-14, 2020. Oral examinations will be administered early next year. They will also be done remotely on line providing candidates the ability to close out the final chapter of their certification process, something that could not be done for the foreseeable future if exams were to remain in person. Additionally, the AOBOO has made the decision to move away from the 10-year high stakes recertification exam. In its place, we will be structuring a new longitudinal assessment based Osteopathic Continuous Certification (OCC) process that will fit in with a diplomate's current practice. This new process is a welcomed change for many of our physicians. It should be fully implemented by the beginning of 2022.
